Hi, thanks for checking out my blog. If you're new to my work, my name is Bram Adey, and I'm a Winnipeg Tattoo Artist with sixteen years experience. I make traditional black and grey tattoos with clean/solid black linework and smooth black and grey shading. I am a formally trained tattooer who is glad to do most any type of tattoo. In my personal work, I love exploring themes of nature; birds, floral tattoos, snakes and landscapes; and esoterica including fire, water, geometric tattoos, ladders, snakes etc...

I was so happy to complete this pair of hand tattoos with these esoteric designs from my flash collection. I meant these designs to signify Abundance and Passion, the dish being a symbol for the body, and the water a symbol of bodily needs, and the fire a symbol of intellectual passion. Those last three images, the Raspberry and geometry, gears, wild roses and spider web tattoos, are all part of this old client of mine's sleeves. She has been getting tattooed since the late 90's/early 2000's and therefore had a whole bunch of different styles of work and after filling most of the larger areas, we decided to fil the gaps with pine boughs, wild roses, and spider webs. I'm really excited for the opportunity and with the results. Pulling together sleeves after so many years of getting tattooed feels really good.

In my personal work, I'm starting out on a big body of work focusing on Manitoba flora/fauna/fungi and geology, with a working title of "Our Wild Kin". It is my hope to make this a 48 sheet set, an ambitious project, but not un-doable! My Hope is to make something similar to a natural history book, but have it include a little of everything, not just birds or flowers or trees, but a little of everything, all the major species.

The longer I've worked in the tattoo industry, the more and more every year, I desire to leave behind a legacy of flash that future tattooers might look back to and tattoo from or at least derive inspiration from. So i'd like to make a set that I can tattoo from until I'm old, and maybe train someone up tattooing, and maybe, just maybe, there will be younger tattooers in the future that look at this set as something of historical relevance to them.

Here's a little preview of where I'm at with it. I'm just in the begining stages of discovering what it's going to look/feel like... If there are species/specimens that you'd like to see included in a set like this, email me at bram_adey@hotmail.com to let me know.

I'm thinking to make the set in a very classic style, 11x14 sheets with 3-6 designs each from palm to hand-sized. The set is very much designed to be walk-in tattoos, something expansive and accessable enough that anyone from around here, or even a visitor, might be able to choose something deeply meaningful from.

A big part of wanting to endeavor to this project is my love of books of natural history, expecially early to mid/late 20th century books. When I first saw this Animals of Manitoba" book put out by the Manitoba Museum in the 70's, I knew the time had come, I have to make my contribution!
